I just picked this book up today and just thumbing through it assured me it was a worthy purchase. Now that I have gone through it more thoroughly I'm glad I picked it up.
This volume surveys over a century of civil aviation from the Wright Flyer and it's contemporaries all the way to today's developing models. It has many informative tables and color drawings of a variety of aircraft. There are interesting chapters on the prewar and postwar years where Europe pushed innovation along with the ascendancy of American manufacturers in the latter half of the 20th century.
The book gets interesting towards the back with a chapter on the latest jet developments including the Bombardier CSeries and Comac ARJ21, two programs I have familiarity with. Then there is a chapter on general and business aviation that goes right up to the latest programs including Embraer and Gulfstream and the Learjet 85, which I am involved in.
