The E-1 Hawkeye – distinguished by the 24-foot rotating dome mounted on its fuselage – entered the fleet in 1964, with the E-2C variant entering service in 1973. The E-2C features upgraded radar systems and engines. Along with deep water missions, the E-2 fleet has served overland as command and control and early warning aircraft. No replacement has been set for the Hawkeye, and it continues to serve worldwide in the U.S. Navy and in a number of foreign military services.
