The Sea Vixen was one of deHavilland's last "twin-boomers" - a naval fighter that was designed during the late '40's and served with the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy during the 1950's and 60's. The FAW2, which is the subject of this kit, featured boom extensions over the wings and a variety of internal improvements over the FAW1. The Vixen has long been a pipe-dream for British modellers - there are no other 1/48 representations of this classic type, and only one 1/72 kit and Airfix are to be applauded for providing it to us.
I am not aware of any modellers who have had anything other than praise for the kit and all who experience it will agree that it is a lovely job - nicely detailed and well engineered. It is complex by virtue of the amount of detail incorporated into the kit but is rather simple to build and being more or less without any form of vice it is ideal for the intermediate modeller - moving on from 1/72 Spitfires and looking for something a little more...
